Chesapeake girl's anthem at Scope a YouTube hit
A microphone failure and a viral video have cast an 8-year-old Chesapeake girl into the national spotlight.
Elizabeth Hughes has gained attention for her performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” that was cut short when her microphone died. She sang last weekend at an Admirals hockey game at Norfolk’s Scope.
Virginia Beach born Jamia Simone Nash has been singing since the age of 2.
Born in 1996 she appeared on Showtime at the Apollo in 2002, performing the Alicia Keys song, “Fallin’.”
The next year she was at the Essence Awards
singing Michael Jackson’s ht song, “Who’s Loving You,” in a salute to honor
Mary J. Blige.
By the age of 10, Jamia was on the TV screen playing American Idol winner, a young Fantasia in a Lifetime Original Movie “Life Is Not a Fairytale: The Fantasia Barrino Story.”
The following year Miss Nash was playing the character Hope in the film “August Rush” where she was the lead
vocalist for the song which was nominated for Academy Award for Best Original Song., “Raise It Up.”
The show was hosted by Jon Stewart of The Daily Show.
When Jamia performed the song at the Academy Awards, she became the youngest performer ever on the telecast.
Jamia Simone Nash has been stretching her acting and performing career on shows like:
